Choosing a career path in physics is not just a professional decision. It also shapes how you spend your time, organise your life, and balance work with everything else. This plenary session is part of a series organised by Young Minds in collaboration with the Working Group on Equal Opportunities in Physics (AK Chancengleichheit Physik). It brings together physicists from academia, industry, and entrepreneurship and aims to bring attention to the topic of career choices after graduation which is often lost amongst packed curricula.
After brief introductions from each panellist, a Q&A moderated by previous recipients of the OePG Studierendenpreis opens up the conversation about what different career paths mean in practice: from day-to-day, work environments and the people you interact with, to long-term career planning, and everything else the audience wants to talk about. Students and early career researchers are especially encouraged to participate and bring their questions, but we cordially invite all attendees of the annual meeting to join the discussion.
